I just added a Windows and Exchange 2000 server, which are on the same box in a my internal network, and having dificult allowing SMTP, DNS and HTTP traffic. I have tried many options from this site and Ciscos and have not been able to figure it out.

I have restored my configuration back to the way I had it, so can someone please review it and help me understand what I'm missing?

Your support is much appreciated.

My configuration is as follows:

In which direction are you having the problem? After looking at your configuration I note the following.

You have 2 NAT (inside) 1 statements, I'm not sure this is valid, may cause a problem. I would use NAT (INSIDE) 1 0 0
This will NAT every inside address apart from those specified in the NAT 0 ACL.

This line, access-list acl_out0 permit gre any any if applied will stop all outbound traffic apart from the GRE.

You ACL 100 is only permitting some ICMP and GRE, any other packets will be dropped.

If the problem is allowing this traffic in then you need to add a static translation:

static (inside,outside) outside-IP inside-server-IP

And you need to allow outside connections to be made to the outside address you specify in the static command.

access-list 100 permit any outside-IP eq smtp
access-list 100 permit any outside-IP eq domain
access-list 100 permit any outside-IP eq http

The outside address you pick has to be an unused address in your outside address space, dont use the interface address.

Finally you'll may need a static route on the PIX pointing at your internal server, unless its on the same newtork as the PIX inside interface. Also you'll neeed a default route on your server pointing the way to the PIX.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Thanks for your response. Please bare with me fo I am trying to understand the pix language. I received this error when I attempted to create the static translation:

static (inside,outside) outside-IP inside-server-IP

ERROR: static overlaps with 67.117.67.224 to 192.168.2.2
Command failed

Please help.

This means that you already have a static configured or that one of the addresses you have use is allocated elsewhere in your configuration.

When you got your external IP address allocation, you should have a range, a minimum of 6 useable addresses. Two of these will be allocated to the PIX and your Internet facing router, leaving at least 4 spare. You need one of these for the Internet facing IP address for your smtp/web/ftp server. This address would be used to translate to your internal server address.
