Dear all,

I have a 17 inch laptop with a 1920 * 1200 display. I would like to use dual monitors.

Ideally I would like to get a 17 inch standalone monitor to match the laptop's with a 1920 * 1200 display but I have not found any below 22 inch.

Next best option would be a 17 inch standalone with something * 1200 native res. but have found none less than 19 inch.

Any suggestions? TIA

I can't think of any monitors under 20" with that resolution myself. Is there a lower resolution that you could use so that the dual monitors still line up? I didn't do the math, but something like 1440x900 is readily available in a 17" WS LCD.

In an ####x1200 resolution monitor, I have only ever seen 1920x and 1600x, and only in larger screens.

You could always go crazy and order a replacement screen for your laptop, then build it's own case... well ok, maybe not ;-)

Yeh, I had even quietly considered another matching 17 inch Laptop along side but see no way of using its monitor in dual monitor mode from the first machine.

It can be done with two laptops using MaxiVista, which uses a network connection between the two to run one machine's display as a secondary display for the other. It's not as good as two genuine monitors for several reasons, mainly that you have to boot then link two machines every time you turn your system on, but it is do-able.

It's also rather expensive, buying a whole laptop to use as a screen. You could just buy two cheap screens and a Matrox DualHead2Go, which is a dongle + software that lets you connect two monitors to one display port. Probably cheaper than a laptop.
