SIP to 3300 = OK, SIP to Nupoint = one way audio

What could create the following situation: a phone on the 3300, which has the same gateway the Nupoint does, can receive a call and provide two-way audio over sip trunks, while a call straight to the line group or being forwarded to the user's mailbox won't provide audio to the external caller?!? All you get is dead air but you can leave a message and it'll record it...

The network consultant was able to show me the packets flying out of the firewall from the Nupoint's internal IP using the exact same rules the 5530s use. Everything else works fine, they also have a PRI which obviously provides twoway audio in all circumstances.

I added the SIP provider's IP to the local networks of the MAS, to no avail.

Thanks!

(MCD 4.0 SP2, SIP is IP-Authenticated, Nupoint is at 14.0.0.48.01
- on a MAS 2.0)

What is your SP trunking gateway? A MBG? Obviously the packets are getting into the Nupoint because the call is recorded in the mailbox so the problem is that packets from the Nupoint are not getting back to the caller. Hmmm. Is the Nupoint in the same subnet as the phones?

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

So the handset is on a SIP trunk which isn't in the office yes or no?...

If you are using the MBG on the nupoint server are you using 2 nic or 1...

to use a MBG properly you have to have a internal IP and external IP but then bonded together otherwise you will get 1 way audio issues...

Let me know if you want more info on this...

Stickymicky27 - bonding external and internal IP would not be "Proper".

The packets are being routed incorrectly.

The inbound call is being pointed at the external address of the MBG so inbound is OK.

The outbound leg is being routed to the internet via the data LAN, not the MBG so the packets are being lost.

You either need to program your router to route packets coming from the Voice LAN destined for the internet through the MBG or you need to make the MBG the gateway for the Voice LAN so it can control the call.

Thanks for the input!

1)the Nupoint is in the subnet of the phones and controller

2)I am using the 3300 to establish the sip trunks

3)The handset with which I can communicate is a 5330 off of the 3300

4)There is an MBG at that site but it is not involved in the current scenario

I was assuming the SIP trunks were connected to the MBG. Sorry.

It still sounds like a routing issue but I don't have any clue why.

What is often forgotten is that the SIP subnet must be part of the local network on the Nupoint server. Maybe that is not yet filled in.

NuPoint uses Asynchronous RTP, your SIP provider may not support this. As you have an MBG you can use this as a SIP proxy. MBG supports Asynchronous RTP.
