Is there any way to turn off a phones ringer wihtout putting it on DND mode? We have a performance that will be taking place in the main room of our center where the receptionist sits. The receptionists phone is the only phone to ring on a certain line. If we placed that phone on DND, the caller would go directly to the voicemail. Is there any way to silence it so the only way a call is anounced is via the telephone's line lights?

Is this a regular occurance? You could do some other things like program the phone for no ring, and reprogram it later.

If this happens a lot, you could set the phone for No Ring, and put in it the Night Service group. Then, when you WANT it to ring, press the NS button. This may require you to reprogram your Auto Attendant to swap Day and Night modes.

you could put a switch on the side to cut the speaker on and off

How about a manual voice mail transfer button instead of automatic VMS. The receptionist can turn the DND button on and voice mail coverage button off.
