Hi.
I am in New York City, and I had a server running with Verizon (who uses a default gateway 192.168.0.1) in one location. But this year, I get this computer server to use it in another location but with the internet services from Cablevision who uses a motorola modem. I tried to use this machine in the second location but I can't get internet access and even I can't get access to the other computers.
The pc server has to nics (one for internet, the card integrated to the mainboard) and the other card is used to get access to the other computers.
It worked well in the first location but now, it doesn't work. I tried to configured the internet inside windows 2003 but I didn't have success. What do you think I am doing wrong. I don't know if I am putting wrongly the dns number or the gateway ip. I have noticed that in order to browse the modem of cablevision I have to write another ip in the browser. Do i have to put this ip address as a default gateway when setting the internet in windows 2003 instead of the 192.168.0.1 of verizon? (I did whithout sucess) and what about the dns ip? How to get that dns? Is it no the same dns as the other location?. In the first location, the server had ips from 192.168.0.1 to 250 and worked fine there. But here i have this problem.
I don't know either if i have to re-install the system again (formating) in order that this server catch the new netwotk. I am almost new in this setting servers.
Thanks in advance. Eric

Hi:
I had not realized that the device to connect internet given by Cablevision is a MODEM only (Motorola), so What I needed was a router! I followed the basic setup of the ASUS router and I was able to have internet in a single computer (no the 2003 server) with either automatic IP address and Static ip 192.168.1.50 as example, being the case that the gateway and DNS is the same ip adress: 192.168.1.1. But when I put the Small Business Server 2003 R (with 2 nics)between router and hub, I have only internet in the server but in the clientes I have internet only when i leave them with Ip automatic (dinamic). The conections that I have are: Cablevision Modem > Asus Router >SBS Server External Nic, integrated card>From here a cable from internal nic goes to>hub>then cable to all other pcs.
Again, clients hav internet acess only with automatic ip address but not with ip assigned manually.
These are the setupsof the server that I made:
The first card (external) is setup as:
192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1 (default gateway)
192.168.1.1. DNS

The second card (internal) is setup as:
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
(BLANK)
192.168.1.1. DNS

What do you think I made wrong? Thanks in advance
Eric

I made a mistake writting the ip configuration of 2 nics above. The correct cinfiguration that I have is:
External Nic:
192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1 (default gateway)
192.168.0.1(DNS)

Internal Nic:
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
-------- (default gateway is empty)
192.168.0.1(DNS)
In that way has worked good in the previous store but now, in the clients have internet only when the ip of the client is configured automatically, when I assign an ip to the cliente, there is not conection with internetip.
I made the ipconfig/all in client to see what is the differece between when I assign an Ip to the client (when I don't have acces to internet) and when the ip is automatic.
Only here the differences that I have are:
WHEN I ASSIGN AN IP to the client:
dhcp enabled: no
default gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1

WHEN the ip of the cliente is AUTOMATIC:
Dhcp enabled: YEs
Autoconfiguration enabled: yes
Default gateway: 192.168.01
DHCP Servers: 192.168.0.1 (not shown when ip is assigned)
DNS Servers: 192.168.0.1
Primary WINS Server: 192.168.0.1(not shown when ip is assigned)
Lease obtained: monday dec 27 2010(not shown when ip is assigned)
Please help me what to do in server management to fix this.
I had run the Connect to Internet Wizard several times but nothing. Thanks in adavance.
