I have a couple of questions:
1, I should to be able to just log in to my
database (oracle 8i) and start processing.
Lately, after shutting down and restarting
my pc, I get error "oracle not available"
when I attempt to log in.
Is there a way to set the instance so I don't
have to manually start it all the time?

The other question concerns oracle management server
. I need to use my rman and and backup
manager but I can't unless I login into oracle
management server. The problem is when I attempt to
login to oracle management server, I get this
message, "Could not start oracle management server on
local computer, overlapped i/o operation in progress"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sokeh,

If u want manually start db, go to dos, type svrmgrl, in svrmgrl type connect internal, and then type startup. The other way is under \control\service\ find your db service click start, u also can make it automaticlly there, and then db will start when pc is up.

To use OMS you need create reopsitory first, and then u can login to the console.

Hopefully that helps.

Thank you Iweng!
On the OMS, can you give me an example of how to create a repository?
Thanks,
sokeh

1. Go to /Enterprise Manager/Configuration Assistant
2. Follow the GUI direction create a repository on one database.
3. Login OEM console as sysman/oem_temp, change password.
You are there,

Ok, I want followed your directives and gotten repository
created and I was able to connect to management server using the console.
But I still cannot use rman or backup manager because I cannot connect to a database,
I tried using the console to discover the service but unable to do so.
Someone is going to really work me through this.
I have got to get this done asap.
Thanks for all your good help.

Have you started the Intelligent agents for the databases?

To start the service, Start the OracleAgent service from the NT Control Panel.

After starting the agent, perform discovery again. Post if there will errors.
