Is it possible to use select statement in Crystal Reports 8.5 or any other version.

Do you mean paste in SQL?
In CR 8.5 you can paste in a SQL Steament in the ADO/ROD connection, however you can't apply parameters against it, in later version you use the Add Command object and then you can apply parameters against the SQL.

In a formula can I write as follows
Select abc, xyz from tablename
where lmn = 01
Select abc, xyz from tablename
where lmn = 01
What are abc, xyz and lmn? If they are fields in a single record - 'table' in Crystal jargon - then put lmn = 01 in your record selection, Report > Selection Formulas > Record.
If they are distinct records / tables, then link them with 'equals' joins using Database Expert. That makes them a 'row' in Crystal terms, and 'rows' are only selected when they meet the criteria. This can mean excluding one sort of record because of details on a linked record - accounts for customers who are dead, for instance, you don't want to go offering them cut-price life insurance while their affairs are being wound up by their executors.
