Searching XML

I need to provide the ability for a frontend user to search a portal website for content. This content is stored in XML files, and i need to be able to search this xml file for their search criteria and pull out a link to the relevant information from the xml file this will be an external weblink.

I have seen the example on zend.com on xml but it is just not making much sense at the moment.

any one got any ideas on how i can go about this ?
