Searching using the first character

Hi all,

I want a formulae that will search from an sql data base using crystall reports using the first character. It should bring all the values that have that first character or number.

Please assist.

If you want to be able to select what value to search for, create a string parameter {?FirstChar} and then use a record selection like this:

{table.string}[1] = {?FirstChar}

Or if the field is a number, use:

totext({table.string},0,"")[1] = {?FirstChar}
