I have just installed Red Hat 9, everything works fine except for the size of the screen on my KDS 15 inch LCD.
On the left hand side there is about a 1/2 inch of space not being used. On the right some of the pixels that extend to the far rigth of the screen are cut off, such as the day of the month in the lower right hand corner and the close window button on the top right hand side of some screens. I believe I am using the GNOME version of the desktop. I went into display settings and changed the Horizontal sync rate and changed the dpi size but this did not change anything. Any ideas?
I also have Windows 2000 on the machine and the screen size is fine when I boot that up.

Have you installed the nvidia drivers (if you have a nvidia chipset videocard)? When you install the nvidia drivers it properly aligns the screen.

1. Visit:

2. NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run

3. Install it:

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run

4. Open your /etc/X11/XF86config-4 file and comment out:

load dri
load GLCore

so they become
#load dri
#load GLCore

uncomment load glx (if it isn't already), so it reads:

load glx

Change the nvidia driver from:

nv

to

nvidia

Hello
One quick fix is to run "Xvidtune" which will allow you to re-align up/down, right/left. Ultimately knowing exact monitor specs and proper modelines is the best answer.
