I set up a basic samba configuration file (nothing fancy) and the linux box is showing up in network neighborhood but when I click on the "pub" folder I get a message that the network name can not be found see below for I copy of my configuration file:

[global]
netbios name = REDHAT
security = SHARE
log level = 2
log file = /var/log/samba/samba.log
comment = public-share
path = /home/public

[pub]
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

Code:
[global]
        netbios name = REDHAT
        security = SHARE
        log level = 2
        log file = /var/log/samba/samba.log

[pub]
        read only = No
        guest ok = Yes
        comment = public-share
        path = /home/public
is probably what you want :)

made those changes but I am still getting the same error !?

you may need to log the person off/kill smbd/nmbd ...

Jad I followed those steps and I am still getting the message
"the network name can not be found"

Try adding this line to the global section:

workgroup = same name as windows workgroup
