I have set up roaming profiles.... but when i change from pc to pc all the settings are there... just no wallpaper.. even when i use default. I personally dont think its a big issue but my boss wants to be able to walk around and see if "his" wallpaper shows up anywhere.. paranoid i tell ya. Anyway i have tried default wallpapers and custom... the custom wallpapers are located on the server via mapped drives to users folders. Any ideas? All machines are xp pro and its a 2000 advanced server (domain Controller AD)

Have a look at implementing a policy.
Edit your Default Domain Policy and go to "User Configuration", "Desktop", "Active Desktop Wallpaper". There you can specify where the wallpaper is located and how you want to display it (Centred, Stretched, Etc)

Hope this helps
Regards
Mike

Would this allow people to change their wallpaper? we dont wasnt to strip them of that or would i have to set each persons wallpaper form the server?

Bill

To clarify... not everyone needs the same wallpaper... my boss just wants to see if his personal wallpaper is on others machines so he can see if someone is logged on as "him"

We have the same problem at our company with our Windows XP SP1 workstations only. We still have an NT 4.0 domain without any active directory structure so there is no group policy settings so to speak and our Windows NT domain policy doesn't restrict wallpaper.

I had the same problem, here is my comments:

Windows reads the desktop wallpaper very close
to the start of the logon process (just after roaming profile).

If you are locating the wallpaper file on a mapped
network drive for example, the location may not be
avaliable until later on in the logon process, thus
it is not displayed.

So if your user is setting their wallpaper from z:\mypic.jpg
and z:\ is mapped to \\server1\%username%\ then get the
user to set the wallpaper from \\server1\%username%\mypic.jpg

The same thing happens though when i am using the default wallpapers supplied by XP... they are located on the local C: Drive. I will try your suggestion.

Bill

I don't think this is an issue with mapped drives because the problem that is occurring at my company has to do with the selection of wallpaper that comes with Windows XP and is located in the Windows folder on the C: drive.

Something else is going on but I'm not sure what just yet.
