Retain column data when formula dependent cells are deleted

Hello all,
I am looking to create a cell that is based off of other cells using a formula. But my delema is that I would like to retain the "text" contents of the cell even when dependent cells in the formula is deleted. Is this a possibility. Please let me know if more clarification is needed....kind of an abstract question.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes,
For example; cell A1 =Alpha
cell A2 =A1&"bet"

With this set up.... cell A2 should read -> "Alphabet"

I am trying to figure out a way to delete cell A1 and still retain the text "Alphabet" in cell A2.

Does this example help? Any ideas?

Nevermind....I figured it out....just copy the cells you need and "paste special" and select only the value of the cell.

Just to confirm - there is no way to do that and retain any of the formula. Your method is the easiest way to do this.

Another way ( formula would also dissapear of course) is selecting your result cell ( in your example A2),
place your mouse arrow on the upper part of the selected cell, and while holding down your mouse's right button, move the selection and put it where you like ( it can be on the same place, the important thing is moving it around a bit).
A menu will then appear and in your case select :
"Copy here as values only"
Now using this method you could put your formula anywhere on the sheet, and maintain it after you " right button mouse" moved the selection (record a small macro to that effect)
