I use a VSS based backup program that backs up the database files.

Now, I want to do a point in time restore, using the data files.

So is there a way I can attach the datafiles, but leave the database in a NoRecovery mode so I can apply TLogs?

Thanks

It is not the cleanest approach, but you could do this:

1) Attach the files
2) Make a real full backup.
3) Restore this full backup with norecovery
4) Apply transaction logs.

Best way to backup you r database is with the backup command. You don't have to detach the database, or incur downtime if you use the backup command.

If you are not using a "native" backup strategy, or a program designed to plug in to SQL (such as Litespeed) then you will have to read the documentation that comes with your backup program.

Sorry, not very helpful, but if you don't use a native backup solution, you will have to "bend" your recovery solution - especially if you want to do point in time.
