I have searched and searched sites - found one post with this problem but no replies. On a SQL2005 server, Reporting Services Configuration Manager, Report manager virtual directory is greyed out.

Clicking Windows Service Identity results in "There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Any help on how to configure the RM virtual directory?

Thanks

dumb question but you have IIS installed right?

Is the "New" button also greyed out? or does it allow you to create a new one. If IIS is installed when you go to the mmc can you see it in the root?

IIS is installed. What "new" button? In RS config manager, the left pane has a list:
Server Status
Report Server Virtual Directory
Report Manager Virtual Directory
Windows Service Identity
etc.

The RM virtual dir is greyed out, can't select it at all.

In IIS manager, default website, only ReportServer has a folder.

The New button as shown below

Did not know you could paste a picture into the forum - still don't know how you did it. The check next to RM virtual directory is grey. I cannot select it to click new.

I think that means you have a permissions problem. Does you ASPNET account have sufficient privileges on the box to the resources of SSRS?

It appears to have the same permissions as on a box that does not have this problem. Just to be sure, we are talking about permissions in Computer Management, Users not somewhere in SQL configuration tools?

Thanks for the link. We will look into it.
