I have a Win2k server running Terminal Services. Clients connect remotely through a VPN, then run RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) over that.
The problem I have is that one client running XP Pro can connect the VPN successfully using dial-up, ping the server, but the RDC fails with a "remote connection failed" message and a list of 3 possible causes (No free session, network issue, can't remember third cause)

I have successfully connected the VPN and RDC from another location(different client) running XP with no issues at all. So I am sure the issue is on the client's end. I just need to be able to tell them what the cause is.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Daniel

A) Describe your VPN connection.

B) Check event viewer on the server for more specific error messages.

I've gotten that message for several reasons:

1. My VPN wasn't set up correctly
2. The Remote computer was down
3. My Internet connection was off
4. I was trying to connect from a hotel and couldn't get through their firewall.

Don't know if that helps
