Remote Access to a Mitel

Can someone tell me the basics of remotely accessing a Mitel switch please? I've heard that you need Mitel's software to do it. I know nothing about Mitel, and am doing some reasearch as my company may be taking over the maintenance of a couple. Thanks In Advance.

depends on the switch. most mitels just need a modem and terminal emulator

You just need to initialize a usr modem with the proper settings and use a null modem cable...

For the SX-2000 series you should need PC with a standard modem, anything from 56k to 9600 should work but since 56K's have been out a Long time you would be hard pressed to find a 9600 baud modem, for the Program I use Procomm Plus Set to VT100 & 8,N,1 for the terminal Emulation, I use procomm as that is what my Local Mitel rep uses. I got my copy on E-bay, (so it does not have to be a brand new version) If you are used to a different program go ahead and use it but it must do VT100, if it doesn't you are SOL I believe the SX-200 series is the same,

mitel 200 digital are remote programmable. the 200 analog you're sol.

Mitel switches can be touchy when you are doing a remote. Make sure you have a terminal emulation program like the previous people have said, but Mitel switches are particular to the U.S. Robotics Modems, that is also the only modem that Mitel will support. You need the 56K or the Sportster.
When you connect on the 200 hit enter at least 3 to 5 times to get a logon screen, and on the 2000 hit ESC. Q to log on.
The tech manulas have the switch settings for the modems.
