Hello,

I have a 1200 Series Cisco Access Point. The IOS image has been lost. When I console in, I just have an ap prompt. Nothing in the directory. Can someone give me the steps to load a new ios image onto this access point? I greatly appreciate it!!

Becky

i am assuming you did do a, show ver ?

just like any other cisco device if you care to upgrade

copy tftp flash

Thanks justnetworking. I did a show ver and this is what I got...

C1200 Boot Loader (C1200-BOOT-M) Version 12.2(8)JA, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOF
TWARE (fc1)
TAC Support: Compiled Wed 12-Feb-03 15:23 by hqluong

I did try a copy tftp flash and I get tftp: permission denied.

Any ideas??

Thanks!

I'm trying to follow the directions from Cisco and am having a hard time. Step 4 says to assign an ip address, netmask, etc. Why? Should this be a working ip address? And, does the access point need to be connected to the internet?

Thanks everyone!

Yes, you need to connect the AP to a network where you have a TFTP server available that is hosting the IOS image. You can download various freeware TFTP servers, just search. I assume you have a copy of the IOS image? otherwise you will need to download it from Cisco, but you will need a valid login account.

You are quite lucky to have a console port to issue commands like this. I had to recover two 1100 AP's that only have Ethernet ports, now thats a bit more difficult.....

Thanks ADB100. that's probably why I have been having so much trouble getting the IOS back on.

I'll try on Monday and post back.

Thanks!!

OK. I'm getting closer. I have hooked up to ethernet and set the IP_ADDR, using the tar -xtract tftp: flash: command, I get the following error-

Tar checksum error in tftp:

Any ideas on checksum error??

Thanks,
Becky
