I'm running Crystal Enterprise 10, on Windows XP Pro, on a Celeron 2.0 GHz, 384 MB RAM, with all of the CE servers running on the same box. The O/S is up to date.

In trying to view a multiple page report, I get the following error when I try to page navigate through the report - "Unable to retrieve Object. The request could not be submitted for background processing."

What's frustrating is, the error occurs inconsistenly, but always occurs in trying to view a page in between the first and last pages, which display fine. I also get intermittent successes/failures if I try to drill down to a specific group in the report.

I've tried installing SP3 and SP4 (is there SP1 and SP2 ?), as well as hotfixes ce10win_en and common10win_en, but still get the message.

Any suggestions are appreciated. A solution is even better. I can't help but think I've missed a viewer setting somewhere.

Also, is there any way to ensure I have all the updates and patches for CE 10? I don't see an option for automatic updates.

Thanks in advance.

Depends upon which edition of CE you're using, but in any case, you are below the minimum amount of RAM required:

It's hard to buy a desktop or laptop with under 512MB these days, I wouldn't consider puniching a server with so little resources, and it's the cheapest way to improve performance.

Update - I'm running CE 10 Pro. At your suggestion, I moved CE 10 Pro to another machine - 2.4 GHZ processor, 2 GB RAM, running Win 2k3 Server. All CE servers on the same box, as before.

Unfortunately, I still get the message, "Unable to retrieve Object. The request could not be submitted for background processing.", when I try viewing the same multipage report.

Thanks.

Perhaps there's a link to an object unavailable to the server.

Open the report in Crustal Reports on the CE server, if it runs OK, do a Database-Verify Database and then save it to the CE server under a different name.

From Crystal Reports - if I do a Database - Verify Database, I get "the database is up to date".

If I try to view the report, I can get the first page, or the last page; but when I try next or previous page, I get "the instruction at 0x005d28da referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be 'read'."

The report is not all that complicated. Two tables from an Access dB - manually linked, two groups, and a couple of summaries. Only a handful of data fields.

Looks like I solved my problem, but it brings up another question.

In the report, I was using running totals to track certain min and max dates. I would get a crw32.exe error when I tried navigating the report beyond page 1. This is in CR 10 Dev. I then switched the running totals to summary totals, and the crw32.exe error went away.

When I placed the report on CE, it was the original report with running totals. It caused the "... background processing" error. When I placed the version that has summary totals, on CE, I don't get the error. It looks like the crw32.exe error on CR 10 is related to the "background processing" error on CE 10.

So, now my question is, why do I get the crw32.exe error using running totals vs. no error with summary totals?
