Hello,

I have installed the crystal report viewer on someone's p.c that does not have crystal reports installed. The version of crystal I am using is 7.0. I run the setup program and all files install correctly. I setup the ODBC connection(SQL SERVER) and tests complete successfully. However, when I run the report by clicking the print with the refresh data checkmarked, the client's computer crashes. I get this dialogue error box saying PRINT ENGINE ERROR Error in file c:\program files\seagate software\Distributed reports\New Month End.rpt. SQL server error. Does anyone know why I am getting this error. I install the same report on someone else's P.C and it works correctly. Is this profile related? Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks and great forum.

What is the difference between the 2 PCs?
Which viewer are you referring to and how did you set it up?
Does the person have permissions to all needed directories and files? Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

Thanks for your quick reply Ken.
I checked to see if there was any difference between the 2 p.c's with regards to permissions, ODBC versions etc. Unless there is something else I should be checking for, I think I captured the majority. I found nothing to be different. The viewer I am referring to is the free crystal viewer that get's installed with the distribution files. Yes the person has all necessary permissions. When I use the distribution expert in crystal, it creates files necessary for someone who does not have crystal software installed on his/her p.c. I run the setup program that the distribution expert has created and follow the instructions. I have done this many times for other people in the same department with the same report and it works fine. We have checked the SQL permissions and everything is comparable to someone who is accessing the same report. Again, I am using crystal 7 and the viewer version that gets installed with 7. Thanks Ken

Try a report with saved data. If that works it is the data connection. If that doesn't work either, then it is the report engine. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

Thnaks Ken,

I have tried both situations and that did not work. I tried to reinstall the distribution files and run the setup again. That did not work either. When you say it is the report engine, what can I do about this. Yours suggestions will be helpful. Thanks Ken.

Neither the PC that works nor the PC that doesn't have CR?

You are sure that the report had saved data? The test is if you close it and reopen it in the designer and it immediately goes to preview.

Was it was run from the compiler with the saved data? You get the choice of saved or refresh if there is saved data.

If it can't run the report with saved data, which doesn't even need the ODBC connection, then the compiler is not installing correctly or a dependant file is missing. You may need to do a DLL comparison between the 2 PC's to see what is different. There is a utility for this on Crystal's web site. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

What are the different printer setups on the two PC's.

I've found Cr has major problems if a printer isn't configured correctly.
What is the default printer on each?
What printer was the rpt designed against?
