RAID question

I have just fitted a RAID card to my Windows XP system to replace the previous boot controller (previously IDE)

Now I have the problem that Windows doesn't boot, as Windows obviously doesn't know about the card.

So, I have to somehow inject the driver into Windows XP and tell it to use it.

The question is, how do i do this?

I have the card's driver on a floppy disk.

If i boot from a special cd, so that i can access the files and edit files - how can i:

a. install the driver
b. tell it to use the driver to boot from.

My other option, is to put it back to IDE, then do an add/remove new hardware, and install the driver (when in Windows) install the driver, then boot from the RAID controller.

Any ideas?

When you install/repair XP you get a 'press F6 to load RAID drivers' promt in the 1st bit of the boot menu, that's where you need to be I'd guess.

My RAID driver is located in the \windows\system32 directory. Placing the driver alone don't think it will do much since there is another copy of it in a \windows\oemdir directory along with the rest of the floppy disk files of the installation, the INF file in the INF directory of windows and numerous entries in the registy.

The best option is to put back the drive in the IDE controller as you suggested and install the drivers in that system. Then put it on to the RAID controller.

I assume you are going to use a single or RAID-1 configuration in that RAID. Also you might want to check the BIOS of that RAID controller to see whether your drive is registered as bootable. Some Promise Controllers want you to mark the bootable drives inside their BIOS.

You have to do a repair reinstallation of XP.
The RAID drivers must be on a floppy image, and introduced to the Operating System during the repair. Just copying the drivers to the hard disk image is not enough. You could just use Recovery Console if that were the case.
