I'm trying to install VisualAge C++ on my AIX box but the install script fails telling me I am missing requisites and it lists :

bos.rte v=4, r<3 #Base Level Fileset
bos.rte v=5, r=0 #Base Level Fileset

I am currently running AIX 4.3.3 and when I run "lslpp -h bos.rte" I see two filesets commited and completed for level 4.3.3.75 which makes me think the filesets are correctly installed.

Does anyone know what I might be missing ?? Please help.

This usually means you are trying to install a version that is not correct for your level of OS.

If using smit, don't use the install all/update all option, select the version based on your OS level.

C for AIX (Visual Age C++) comes with different version for AIX 3/4/5.

theycallmetim is right about the OS version not being what the install script is looking for. But it does seem odd that it requires version 4, and revision less than 3. That would mean it can be installed of 4.1.x or 4.2.x but not 4.3.x. Or you can have version 5.0.x.

Assuming you bought this from IBM and have support, I'd call them and get a version that can be installed on 4.3.3.

Running "lppchk -v" may produce more clues to the problem.

Yep, I called IBM and they sent me a wrong CD. Weird if you ask me since I would think they only carry latest versions. Anyway, I installed with the new CD with no problems at all !! Thanks for the help !!
