I'm using Acrobat 6.0 Pro and Quark 6.1 on MAC G5 runing OS10.2.8. In the event where I have to make a change to a PDF that I am importing, after I save my change I cannot place it. Quark says it is an "Unrecognized" version. I can place the original PDF fine, but once I re-save it fails to be recognized. I had hoped upgrading my Quark from 6.0 to 6.1 w/the patch would fix it, but no luck. The Quark forum was no help so I'm posting here to see if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi Matzki,

Quark 6, I believe, is not compatible with Acrobat 6. Not quite sure why the patch didn't fix that. Maybe when you save resave the pdf, choose an earlier version when you see the compatibility options. Personally, when I have to place a pdf, I put it in InDesign: 1) because CS version is compatible with Acrobat 6 and 2) InDesign seems to handle pdfs better than Quark. I tend to have font issues printing them from Quark vs InDesign.

Thanks Signal49, I wish I had the option of using InDesign, but I do not. I guess what I really need to know is can I save down to 5 out of 6?

You can, but I think I still had issues when trying to bring that into Quark. :-(

Hi Matzki, I've just joined tek-tips and found your question by chance. There is a way to import pdf's into Quark 6 after making changes. Firstly make changes but instead of just saving the file select "save as" and choose the postscript option (you may have to tweek the settings here). Once postscript file is made redistill with Acrobat Distiller using your desired settings. The new pdf with changes should now be seen by Quark 6. Good Luck. Tex

It's not a very good idea to be creating a .PS file from Acrobat (strange stuff could happen)

In Acrobat 6 under Advanced>PDF Optimizer select compatible with Version 4.

This will ask you to save it somewhere. This makes a PDf which is compatible with Quark, and you will be able to import.

Thanks for all your responses. I have learned that Quark 6 IS NOT compatible with Acrobat 6 and the suggestion MarcusStringer made is the best work around I have found. I've since upgraded to Quark 6.5 and still not compatible (what are they thinking??) I'll be willing to bet my children that Quark's next update will support Acrobat 6 and not 7.
