PXE Customization

Hello all,

I know this topic really dosent fit into this catergory per say but Im not sure where else I can post it and receive feedback.

I am looking at implementing a custom PXE server interface in our environment so that I can boot clients through PXE boot and have them access an interface where I have imaging tools stored. We have a number of disimiliar systems in our environment and what I am trying to get away from is having many different custom network boot disks for the various network cards.

Since PXE is pretty much a standard and all of our systems support it, I wanted to make an interface where my tech's could launch imaging software through an interface accessed by the way of PXE.

Has anyone ever accomplished this before? Any suggestions, pointers or advice, resources, software?

We use Remote Installation Services and it provides everything you just asked for could you use that?

Hi,

We use RIS as well but thats not what Im after. I am looking for a customized PXE bootable interface where I can run imaging programs from the menu and access third party images, not scripted window installs.

How did you go with this? I have been looking for some time at this - using the RIS TFTP server for the PXE clients to boot off... But I never quite get the time.

BartePE used to be able to be run through PXE - although I believe this has been removed now. VMWare aparrently have some XP virtualisation software that runs from PXE...

Not much help - but hopefully a litte...
