We currently have a Firebox II and are about to purchase a SOHO box for one of our branch offices. We want to use this as a web proxy for the site and also to set up a VPN connection to the Firebox II at our head office.

Is the SOHO6tc the same as a SOHO6 but with the BOVPN capability? I know I need a SOHO6tc but just want to be sure it can do the VPN and the web proxying at the same time.

Also, we have the Live Security subscription for our current firebox. Does this cover the SOHO boxes as well, or will I have to get a seperate Live Security subscription for the SOHO box?

Cheers

Easy question first: LiveSecurity requires a separate subscription for each box.

You say you need web proxying. Do you mean you want a http proxy like the FBII offers? If this is the case, the SOHO line only does stateful inspection packet filtering - no proxies on the SOHO.

Will it do VPN and filter http traffic at the same time? You bet.

Thanks, NtrOP.

I guess that means it will have to be used as an internet gateway rather than as a proxy? That's not a problem, as long as users are able to access the internet through it whilst also being able to access head office through the VPN connection.

I've just ordered a SOHO 6tc box, so I guess I'll have to get the LiveSecurity subscription too so I can use the latest software when setting it up. Or does the box come with a year's LiveSecurity subscripion? I seem to recall our Firebox II did but that might have just been part of the package we got.

Cheers.

You won't have a problem using the BOVPN and Internet access at the same time on the SOHO.

I believe the LS subscription on the SOHO is about 90 days at time of purchase.

Actually, I beleive the soho6 and soho6|tc are identical hardware, the 'tc' (which I assume to mean 'tunnel client')
is simply a tunnel client capable soho. If by web proxy, you mean the 'web blocker' feature as watchguard calls it, that is an additional cost on top of the tc upgrade.
