Hi,

I've made a fresh Project Server 2003 install for my company. Performed everything step by step during installation. My Project Server 2003 server and SQL Server server are not the same. But (nearly) everything seems to be working fine after install.

Users on Project Server are synchronizing thru Active Directory. All users can connect via ProjectServerWeb and can update their tasks from Outlook flawlessly. But I can not connect to project server with enterprise options from Project Professional 2003. I can publish and use all other collaboration options without any problems. But when I try to connect I get an error like:

Project was unable to establish a connection with the selected Project Server. This could be caused by a loss of network connectivity, invalid user name or password, lack of an enterprise global template or problems with the project server or database or your project server may not have enterprise features enabled

I watched the activity over Project and SQL Server machines and I also followed the network connections made from Project application. It establishes two succesful connections to Project server on port 80 and SQL Server on port 1090(my sql server instance works on this port, thats ok). When I watch db activity using Profiler, I see a lot of procedures running without any errors. But I can not get this connection work. After this steps, I get the error above...
I checked everything with CONNINFO.exe and PSComPlus.exe tools. Everything is ok.

I want to note two more points. I think these may be related two.

1. I also cannot update OLAP tables. I never managed to do this. From Project web, I go to admin/Manage Enterprise Features. and Select "Yes, I want to update resource availability information and build an OLAP cube", provide correct information (I know these are correct because other applications are managed to connect w/o any problems). When I say update, I get an error saying "Could not connect to the OLAP server specified". OLAP server is the same server as SQL. After trying to update, I get the following errors in event log:
EVENT1: Component: MSP Resource Availablity Refresh and OLAP Cube Creation Component (ProjOLAP)
File: PROJOLAPProcess
Line: 1
Description:
DSO.Server.Connect failed with error message 'Cannot connect to the repository.

Analysis server: SPONGEBOB

Error:
Could not use ''; file already in use.' Error Number : '-2147221453

EVENT 2: Component: MSP Resource Availablity Refresh and OLAP Cube Creation Component (ProjOLAP)
File: PROJOLAPProcess
Line: 1
Description:
Error #: 0 Desc. :

2. I cannot make "Project Server Connector Service" run on server. I do not know if I need this service or not. I see this service not running and thought it may be required for me to connect from Project. Service seems to be starting normally. But after this, it throws following log entries on every 10 seconds.
EVENT1: Soap error: XML Parser failed at linenumber 0, lineposition 0, reason is: Access is denied.

EVENT2: Soap error: Loading of the WSDL file failed.

EVENT3: Soap error: One of the parameters supplied is invalid..

3. While searching web for my problem. I came across a tool named EditSite from Microsoft. I downloaded and run it. I checked all information. Everything seems to be okay. When I press Test button. I get the result:
- Virtual Directory: Failed
- MSADC: Failed
- Registry: Passed
- Database: Passed
Result Information: The IIS Virtual directory has been deleted or renamed. Check that the information in IIS is correct, or delete and re-create directory.

I was sure about the IIS settings. Because all of my users can use the system from web flawlessly. But I gave it a try, and deleted the VD and re-created id with no luck. Web interface is working flawlessly again, but the error with EditSite is still there.

I know this is a long post. Sorry. But I spent several hours on this. And I really need help...

Waiting for your kind responses...

Best regards,

Project Server connection problem solved. It's not related with the other issues. It was just a localization problem. My computer uses Turkish locale and the server is English locale.

Creating the registry key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Codepages\1254\1252]

on client, resolved my problem. I can connect to server flawlessly now...

I hope this help others...

Ali

Project Server Connector Service" errors resolved. This problem occur because of "Internet Explorer Enhanced Secuity" thing. After removing this from Add/remove windows components, now the service is running ok...

Hope this helps too.

I'll keep on posting as soon as I find solutions. Because I've lost a lot of time on these and I do not want others live the same nightmare...

Greetings! I'll give you a start for adding to our KB.

Many thanks!!

Ok, one more issue resolved... Problem with OLAP Cube build is gone away. The problem was DSO (Decision Support Objects). In my case, my project server and database are placed on two separate servers. Database server has Microsoft Analysis Services (also includes DSO) installed.
But then I realized that, project server also requires DSO installation on project server machine even if this machine is not the one that holds the database...
Installing DSO on this machine resolved everything. And Cube is now building...

Hope this helps someone out there too...
