I've inherited a Compact system. It has 3 C.O lines. I need to set it up (for all lines) to:
a) Ring in 3 or 4 times at Reception... extension 21
b) If not answered, then ring in to one or more other extensions
I ran into troubleshooting a problem with this type of set-up a long time ago, but I'm drawing a complete blank on how it was configured. Can anyone provide some programming guidance please. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

We call that a Norstar 3X8 as Compact has different flavours.
This is assuming you have 3 lines capable and 8 station ports.

You want to look at Forward No Answer

If more ext's then you need some more programming such as add Answer DN key to sets so they can answer other sets.
It's best to Forward to an unused DN then add Answer keys for that unused DN to other sets.

Thanks for the response curleycord. I should have said this is a regular 16 station Compact. It has two C.O cards but they only have 3 incoming lines. As for the Forward No Answer, I think I see how that would work. When I got involved with troubleshooting this type of problem once before (at another location) I seem to remember that the forwarding was heading towards a ring group or something. In any case, I think I can get to where I need to go now. Thank you for the info.

That would be known as a CICS then.

CICS has Hunt Groups, I think it's 2.0 or higher required but the DN length must also be at 3 or 4 to see/show HG programming.

So you could Forward No Answer the the HG's DN.
If the Call is coming from AA/CCR then it would be best to direct the Patch in CCR to the DN of the first HG then you can overflow one HG to another.

Curlycord.... that configuration is more along the lines of what I (vaguely) recall when I got into this once before. The ringing sequence will start directly on an incoming call; not through Voice Mail. However, if the call bounces through several people and is still unanswered, then I'm sure it will end up in a VM mailbox. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

You can also tell lines to appear only on sets but tell an HG to answer the lines.

To go to a mailbox:
On the last HG overflow it to voicemails DN.
If you do not create a mailbox with the same mailbox # as the HG's DN then it will default to the General Delivery mailbox.

This way the Forward No Answer programmed on any sets will remain as normal since HG's ignore the FNA settings.
