Can Progress database engine handle millions of records
effeciently? We are running version 9 and want to know what will happen when we reach that stage. Does the operating system falter or slow down or do the records get messed up with millions of records? Any information on this will be appreciated.
Ronnie.

When you say millions of records, do you mean per day? Hour? Minute? Second? Of course a lot also depends on how you have your tables and indexes setup, how much data is in each record, and how you programs are coded. I can have 100 records and kill the database performance with a really bad query. There are many factors that go into this question.

However, let me say something else. Most of the casino's in Las Vegas use Progress for their gaming systems. There is a casino up in the New York area I think (Foxwoods?) that runs completely on Progress. These systems must be up 24/7 and must hand a very large amount of transactions. When the Belagio opened in Vegas, that weekend every system crashed at least once - except those running Progress.

Based on my experience, I would say Progress can handle millions of records quite well, but without knowing more details of what you're looking at, I can't give you a complete answer.

Hopefully that is of some help. :)
