Hello,
I am installing Oracle 8.1.7 on a brand new SUN machine. Halfway this operation the second CD is asked for.

The Eject CD icon on the X-desktop shows me errors like '

How can I switch CD's ?

hi,DGRFL:
Try doing below:
Open a console window, change to a directory not within
the Cdrom's ,type eject.
If that not help, then type eject -n to see
the ejectable media device lists to find cdrom device name.
then try again like eject -n cdrom0 etc..

Good luck!

Hello,

I tried the 'eject' instruction and the system tells me the CD is in use.

How can I see which process is using files on the CD ? Probably it is the Oracle Universal Installer, but then it is that process asking for a new CD.

Regards,

Luc

You might want to check the /etc/dfs/dfstab.

The Oracle Universal Installer is more than likely the cause for the CD not ejecting. Although it asked for the other CD, it seems to have 'captured' the CD-ROM drive and wont let it go (this especially happens with Oracle Applications).

If you can't eject the CD (all my suggestions have already been taken :) ) then try the following as a last resort:

1> kill/cancel the Oracle installation process
2> "cd" out of the CD directory so you are not accessing it
3> eject the CD and then unload all the Oracle CDs to a 'staging area'.
4> use this 'staging area' as the location to load all the Oracle software from.

Of course, you will need enough space to unload all the CDs to the staging area, plus to install the software (you can remove the staging are once your finshed with the installation). Hope this helps and good luck.

Did some more research on this at MetaLink. Oracle says you should go back to the terminal screen you started the installer from and exit from out of the CD directory (so it's not being used) and umount/eject the CD and mount the other CD. Be careful to mount the CD with the name the installer is expecting or it wont accept the new CD. For example:

CD #1 mounted as /cdrom/disk#1
CD #2 munted as /cdrom/disk#1 but installer expects /cdrom/disk#1. Simply mount CD #2 as /cdrom/disk#2

Your other option (same as I said previously) if you can't umount the CD is to exit the installer (or kill if you can't exit/cancel), load the CDs to a staging area (/stage/dsk#1 - disk1, /stage/dsk#2 - disk 2) and run the installer from here. It wont prompt you for any CDs or staging areas as it should pick up the locations automatically.

Let me know how things go. Good luck!
