Problem with Select Expert in CRViewer object

I'm using the Crystal Reports 10 CRAXDRT and ActiveX viewer in a VB 6 windows application.
My client wants to enable users to use the "Select Expert" button on that form. They can, but the browse fields button only displays the first character of the field values.

Anyone seen this before?
Anyone know how to fix it?

In case any searches these archives in the future. I've found an answer (sort of).
The problem doesn't exist in CR 9, so using that with my customer.
