Hello all. I have a small (200kb) .ai file. It's two graphs side by side that were originally .wmf's produced by piece of software we make in house. Usually, what we do is produce them in DAT (data analysis tool - our software) and them I tidy them up in illustrator and save them out as eps files.

I've run into a bit of a probelm though. I formatted the graphs in the way i wanted, but whe i try and save them out as eps files for insertion into word i get the following error:

"Can't save the illustration. Could not complete the requestd operation."

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks!

Did you save as an AI first? If not try that and see if you get an error message. If you don't get the error, try opening the AI and then save as eps and see what happens.

OOPS! Forgot. Also try creating a new simple AI jpb and try exporting to eps - just to make sure your prefs or export filters are not messed up.

thanks for the reply.

- i'm creating the eps files from an ai
- i can definately save out eps files from different ai files
- it doesn't matter what location i try and save to

So, i'm left with the conclusion that there must be something specific about the files i've created that is preventing them from being saved out as eps's!

More likely something you imported into AI from the dat file if everything else from AI is okay.

I might not have been clear on the forst point about saving the eps from the ai. Make sure you save the ai after you've brought something in - so you have a .AI file on you rhard drive.

Also , it you used Place to put in the stuff, you might try embedding rather than leaving as a linked file and see what happens.

Last, if you've been doing stuff like this all along and this has just popped up, you might want to check how the imported stuff was generated - possinly by a different person than in the past. Anything that could cause a change to what you're working with.
