I'm wrote an database application using ADO, and it was compiled in Windows XP. It was written using Delphi 2009.

The problem is when I install it on a machine using Vista I get the following error message:

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

Pls how do I get past this problem.

Japie,

where is the database file located?
From vista the rules where you can put/read/write files are changed.

(oh and ignore JD's comments ;) )

I ignored his comments, and that is why i did not even reply..lol

It is installed into the program files folder into say a folder names school for example.

that is your problem!

before vista every user program was allowed to write in the program files folder.
Vista introduced User Account Control (UAC) and this feature, while providing a more secure experience, breaks a lot of programs that badly (like yours now).

a complete explanation can be found here:

On quick fix is to install your application into a folder under the root (not under program files)

The same rules applies to windows 7

Hope this helps,
Daddy
