Problem to install a network Printer....:(

Hi,

I just insalled a JetDirect on the Network, and attached it to a HP1200Laser printer.
I configured the IP and so on through an NT server (easier... had no clue how to do it under UNIX), but now I gave an IP to that jetDirect box (which I can PING from the UNIX server), I don't know what the next steps are to be able to use that priner under unix... any one knows what to do exactly?

Use the jetadmin utility ( /opt/hpnp/bin/jetadmin ) to configure the printer on you HP-UX server. Option allows you to add a printer. Hope this helps.

sorry but not really.... i found that program.. but don't really understand which steps to follow.... thnx...

Select option 1 Configuration
then option 3 Add Printer to local spooler.
From there simply follow the instructions.

#jetadmin
After 3 it will ask you for either name of printer or ip address.
If you do not have name in dns or if your can't resolve printers name then use printer's ip address
Then give a printers' spooler name. (e.g hp_2100L)

Once you exit out from jetadmin try to print to that printer
#cat filename |lp -d hp_2100L
#cat filename |lp -o2+ -dhp_2100L (my favorite style)

If you want to configure this same printer on another unix system then use sam now because you have your printer setup on first system. Then setup remote printer on second unix system. I have a script that does this for me. If you want that script let me know.
