Hello,

My users have a problem with signing on to the tree, they get the message: "to many connections" even when they havent logged on for several days, it seems that the DS (or one of the replica's) won't release the connections.

Has anyone seen something like this please let me know

In NNW6 there is one issue (official issue) - a server RETAINS a connection license for 30 days. It's not possible to release the connections.

are they using ipx connections or ip

seen it with ipx and you run something like dsrepair -n3

the number is the connection day
check for novell site for this though

It is Netware 6 so it is IP that we are using and we have a sort of unlimited connection licence (250.000) with just above 20.000 users

So that isn't the problem i asume.

We have set "Limit concurrent connections" for our users and that is set to 2.

And normaly the concurrent connection is terminated after 15 min. so the user can login again, and thats the problem.

are you using zen etc

i tend to allow set them to 3
as you seem to have that 1.5 person connection so that it doesnt allow you to login for that small time window

To add to what Victor said, a user object is assigned a license once it is authenticated to NDS and it 'leases' that license for 30 days. This problem really isn't a licensing problem but a connection problem.

You did not give patch level of the server or the client version you are using. Please post those and if you are at SP3 on the server, there are some post SP3 patches and setting you should apply.

nw6nss3c - even if you are not using NSS
tcp607jrev2
nls603ft - this is a licensing patch
Go into monitor - server parameters - NCP, and set client file caching enabled = OFF
and Set level 2 oplocks enabled=Off;
run purge_nw.exe once.

We are running:

Server : NW6 sp3
Client : 4.8.3 sp1
Zenworks : 3.2.1
NSS : 3.03

The NCP (Set client file caching) parameter is set to OFF
And Set level 2 oplocks enabled=Off

What does the "purge_nw.exe" do?
