I am very new to PageMaker. We use 7.0.1 and the girl working with that has just left. There is a very simple 25 pages publication that I need to make some changes in and convert into pdf. When ever I try to print the file to ADOBE distiller the application crashes and I get one of the following messages:
An error occured while printing. Insufficient memory: 8315:16385
or
PM70.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.
An errorlog is being created.

Sometime (not all the times in same publication) I get this message also:
'<any character> not found on the system. Default PPD will be substituted.
Be sure to check it in the 'PPD' popup menu.

Any helpful advice will be highly appreciated.

First thing I would suggest you do is to resave the PM file to a new name. This will reduce file size and may circumvent the memory problem.

Second thing would be to check that the Distiller PPD (Adist5.ppd) is located in the corrrect ppd4 folder wherever PM in installed. On my computer this is C:\Program Files\Adobe\PageMaker 7.0\RSRC\UKENGLSH\ppd4

If these still do not allow the creation ofd a PDFD from the PM file, have a look here:
