Preference file not saving

I'm using a brand new copy of AE 5.5 on a brand new G4 - and for some reason the preference file isn't saving. Each time I open the application, I get an error telling me the current preference file isn't valid and will be resaved with a ".old" extension - and that a new preference file will be created.

Also, each time I quit the application, I get an error message telling me the application "unexpectedly" quit. Could be related, I don't know.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem? And what can I do to rectify it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hm, have to tried scouring it out and re-installing it?

It is October 2003 and I have a new G5 and I had the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?
