Hi, I want to create a greyscale image, dimensions 540x1 pixels @ 72ppi, of 20 solid steps from pure white to pure black. I have tried creating this by opening a greyscale file of the above size, using the gradient tool from black to white and then posterising to 20 levels. Unfortunately the individual steps aren't all the same size, the dark and light end steps are slightly wider. The final image is to be used on a web page of black and white photographs, for contrast and brightness monitor calibration.
TIA
John :)

Hi,

The reason you aren't getting the perfect sizes is because 540 divided by 21 is not even. The reason I say 21 is because you can't have 20 even step from black to white because you want to include black and white. It's like saying you want 20 perfect steps from 0-20 yet 0 is also included therefore it's 1 extra number. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, I have made you something from black to white, excepet it's not pure black, it's 5 degrees off from black but the difference between 0 and 5 degrees of pure black is almost so un-noticable that it might work for you.

Here it is:

Hope this helps!
