Hello All, I am new to Cisco products and I've been tasked to install a PIX 501 firewall/router for our network. I have read the docs for the 501 and searched though the forums, here and others, and I still can't seem to get this thing working correctly. Could someone please review my config and let me know what I'm doing wrong? This config does not allow any access either out to the internet from the inside or from the outside in.

Any and all help mwould be greatly appreciated.

Hello
You should start with a simple config to get connectivity and then work your way up.
First copy your present config to notepad and save it.Then kill the access-list "access-group 100 in interface outside"
Use only one global statement, this will do for the connection test "global (outside) 1 interface"
Turn on logging and make sure your interfaces are up.
let us know how it goes.Good luck for now.
Regards

tomrice,
A few things here...It would definitely be helpful to look through some config guides, but some pointers on this one.

1) Per the config, the outside interface is in a shutdown state, you need to do an interface ethernet0 no shut

2) None of the acl's are applied, there are configured, but not applied as can be seen by the lack of "access-group" command. With this being the case, all traffic should flow by default from the higher security interface (inside) to the lower (outside).

3)Also, remove the following statement "global (outside) 1 70.xxx.xxx.50-70.xxx.xxx.125" so that the pix uses the "global (outside) 1 interface" statement. This statement will allow the traffic from inside out to translate.

Other than that, if your default route is indeed correct, you should be in business.

is simple, just read my posts its 5-6 down, there is compleet simple seeting steps, the problem is mosty in translation you need to give right settings inthere.

Thanks for the help all. I read the sample you posted turalo and I was able to get the PIX up an running using with just a few simple mods.
