Network Setup:
60 users, win 2k servers, XP workstations, DHCP

User Setup:
4 port hub (2 people are accessing it)

One of the users on the hub can access our intranet fine, access the internet fine, ping websites, access other websites...the whole deal...EXCEPT, we can't ping his IP address....

The other user on the hub, we can ping him and he is fine.

We have many hubs on our network and everyone is able to access fine and we can ping them.

I tried releasing renewing ip and tried to plug him in the other port...but still no luck...any suggestions????

Did you make sure your pinging the right address?

yes...i'm also going to try removing his computer from the domain and putting into a workgroup, then re adding it to the domain

firewall?

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

Firewall is not an issue because other PC's are fine and we are able to ping them. I just tried removing the pc from the domain, adding to a workgroup and then putting it back in the domain and that didn't work. The PC can still access servers, internet, email, etc... but I still CANNOT ping that box!!!!

manarth wants to know about the XP Firewall. XP loves to install its Firewall. It would deny a ping if enabled.

sorry - I was in a bit of a rush before....1 word answers = bad habit :)

As bcastner says, XP has it's own firewall which is switched on by default.

Open up network connections, right click the LAN connection, select properties, select the advanced tab...there's your checkbox for XP's firewall.

If you're running Zone-alarm, blackice defender or any other "personal firewall" on the machine, this may be blocking pings.

Manarth...good call!! I have setup over 10 pcs (same model all dells) for users and this is the first one I have probably run into by having Internet Connection Firewall checked by default...and I know I didn't turn it on!! (unless the user did...ha) Last place I thought it would be...I should have checked there first!!

Thanks a lot for your helpful replys!
