I have a new install of Win98SE, using only the screen savers installed with the OS. Each time the screen saver starts it puts a blank button on the taskbar. This button stays until you click on it, then goes away. No harm, but the buttons begin to add up if I don't keep clicking on them. Have found no reference to this in any MS or third-party Windows tips. I found the Foxpro forum here to be populated by very knowledgeable users, so I hope the same in the Windows forum.
Thank you.

The ghost buttons are a result of java. Windows thinking (if it can do that) that you've opened a program, so it wants to put the program on the taskbar.
If you update IE (especially to 5.1SP2 or 5.5) this problem will go away. Check the msupdate site for more...

Thanks Comtech, I always wondered what caused that. I've even noticed old Win95 machines do that after installing Plus95

Thank you Comtech, that seems to have done the trick. Now that I think about it, some upgrades I bumped IE to version 5.5, others I left at the version installed with W98. My users will be relieved.
