I running Pervasive.SQL Version 8 on a 1.6GHz WIndows XP Pro Notebook with 1GB RAM.

When I shutdown, I'm getting the message "Ending Program .. Please Wait". The program ending is "Database Service Manager for Workgroups". I'm suspicious this message may be tied to slow performance of the application using Pervasive (ACCPAC for Windows)

When I compare to a 1.0GHz Windows XP Desktop PC with 512MB RAM, running exactly the same Pervasive.SQL and ACCPAC, the Desktop is noticably faster and the "Ending Program" screen does not appear.

Please advise why I might be getting this "Ending Program" screen at shutdown

What version of PSQL v8 are you using? Check the W3ODBCEI.DLL or W3DBSMGR.EXE for the exact version.
I don't think that message has anything to with slow performance of ACCPAC.
As far as why you are seeing that message, there's really only two reasons for it. One is that there's an active connection. The second is a defect where the engine thinks there's an active connection. I can't remember when it was addressed.

Here's a couple of suggestions:
1. Before you shut down, start the Pervasive Monitor (W3MONV75.EXE) and look for active connections in the Microkernel. If there are any make sure any application (ACCPAC) that uses PSQL has been shut down.
2. As far as the performance, what's slow? Is it stricly within ACCPAC? If not, I would suggest something like Process Explorer, Filemon, and Regmon to help narrow down what's slowing things down. For example, I found through Filemon that my antivirus software was scanning all 300,000 files on startup causing an unresponsive system for about 10 minutes.

I'm running Pervasive.SQL Version 8.7

The slowness is ONLY in ACCPAC and specifically when printing reports to the screen.

I've already uninstalled/re-installed Pervasive, ACCPAC and Crystal Reports without any noticeable improvement.

Now, I should mention the Notebook a a 60GB Hardrive, partioned into 2 30 GB NTFS Drives. Don't know if that matters. I'm focusing on Pervasive only because of the Dialogue Box appearing during shutdown "Ending Program .. Please Wait".

This doesn't occur on the Desktop at all, and printing ACCPAC reports to the screen is fast.

Just as a comment, I have absolutely no experience with ACCPAC. I can talk pretty intelligently about Pervasive though. I run PSQL (it's V9.5 now but it was V8) on a laptop and haven't seen problems with performance.
WHat I would suggest would be to find out what happens when that report is run in terms of Pervasive. Specifically, does the report run a query? If so, take that query and run it through the Pervasive Control Center to see if the performance is the same.
One more thing, what kind of drive does each machine have? I know I've had a laptop with a 5400rpm drive and most desktops have 7200rpm drives. If the system is having trouble reading the data from the disk, it could slow performance.
I wouldn't expect an uninstall/reinstall cycle to change anything in the performance. You might check for disk deframentation on the laptop (goes back to the disk controller causing the bottleneck).

That's it. The Hard Drive in this Notebook is 5400RPM where the Desktop PC I'm comparing to is 7200RPM

Thanks for your help.
