PCI Modem Problem

Hello everybody.

I hope anybody can help me with my modem-problem.
I have a Trust-modem 56K PCI and Operating System Windows 98se.
I have downloaded the most recent drivers.

After boot the computer finds a serial pci device. Directing it to the drivers gives a good install: no questionmarks.
Device Manager shows "HCF Modem - Conexant PCI Modem Enumerator"
AND
"RSS1003 HCF PCI Modem"
After reboor however it shows only PCI Modem Enumerator with a questionmark and says that there is a conflict of resources. BUT when I look at the resourcetab in devicemanager, it says "no conflict" in the conflictlist. After removing the device and reboot: good installation, but next reboot => resourceconflict. And so on...
The IRQ doesn't seem to be used.

Something else is: after good install I looked in "modems" in the configuration settings. The modem was installed at com1. When I ask for "diagnostics" it says: "cannot open port".

I hope anybody van help me with this.
Thank you!!!!

Greetings,

Bramati.

It doesn't matter about windows identifying the modem as a Conexant PCI Modem. I would say that you need to change the irq of the modem. Just choose one that says no devices are conflicting.

Changing the IRQ I already tried.
And changing slot too.
Although I don't see the irq being used by another device.

It didn't solve the problem.

I would just check to see if it definately is a Conexant chip onboard and not something else.
Manufactures do have a tendancey to use differant makes and bundle several drivers on one disk to work the differant chip types. (Rockwell, Lucent, Ambient) to name but a few. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

There is also the possibility that you needed to have software loaded prior to installing the modem.
Unfortunately, there are 3 or 4 different ways that drivers can be loaded on a system, and 3 of them won't work.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I have had numerous problems with installations of that!@#$%chipset. This usually works for me. Once you have got to the point where the enumerator is installed, remove any modem from device manager, but not the enumerator, shut down the system, physically remove the modem from the box, restart and shut down again (That is important) then restart again and hope like hell it finds the modem correctly. If it does you will find it installed on a virtual COM port, either 2, 3 or 4 depending on how many actual physical ports are on the system. It usually seems to end up on COM 4. All this of course if you are sure you have the correct drivers for your modem as paparazi says All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

HI!

About the name of the modem: this was given by the drivers that Trust gave (exactly these ones for this type).
I tried the solution Mulga gave. After removal of modem Win won't shut down. After turning pc off, removing hardware and on again the enumerator isn't shown anymore. After putting it back in win doesn't reinstall the modem. The enumerator is given een questionmark. (With same error as written above.)

About the only other thing I can suggest is a faulty modem. In my experience with this chipset it often takes several tries to get the installation to work, but if the modem is ok it does work eventually. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

The strange thing is that I got it to work 1 exactly 1 time (although I could only reach the site of the internetprovider).
After that: everytime "Commopen - cannot open port"
And "resource conflict"....and like I wrote: there isn't anythinh in the conflict list and no shared IRQ.

Hope for further suggestions.
