Paste formula on Excel

How can I copy a cell (with a formula in) and paste it elsewhere without the formula being updated.

EG cell b1 has "=A1" if copied to cell C1 it changes to "=b1)

how can this be stopped?

Cant think of a 'proper' way, but if you copy from the formula bar (so copying the text rather than the cell) you should get the required results.

Other than this - use absolute referencing.

cell b1 "=A1"
change to "=$A$1"

When copied it will now remain the same
 


and use F4 in formula bar - for easy switching.
