Hi
I have Win home can you Password Protect a maped network drive or forlder? any softwere can do this?

Thanks

Windows XP does not natively have this feature.

You could use Winzip or WinRAR, for example, to compress and require a password for a file or folder.

In addition, many software programs that you might use to create a file offer password-based encryption. For example, files created by any member of the Microsoft Office suite offer this feature.

Well yeah kind of...

Can you not control access through permissions?

Permissions at times require a user name and password.
Please tell us more about what you're trying to accomplish so that we can provide even more information.

Under XP Home the only security model available is to use Simple File Sharing, in which any access to a share is done through the Guest account.

Using NTFS permissions you either allow or deny access, you do not have any provision for password prompting.

Finally, you cannot force a workstation that has the ability to use cached credentials to be prompted for credentials.

Ah okay so that is one of the downsides to XP Home when looking specifically for security options....

Thank you BCastner. You should really consider being some companies technical lead or CIO - You often times offer great information.

HAAA!

Thanks again. Good stuff.
