I have a client that called me in to check on his phone system because it has bad staic on some phones, I checked and found that all extensions 10-16 have static,my guess the main unit went bad and needs to be replaced,
looking at the unit looks like both the expansion module and the processor are the same, both have 2 lines and 6 extensions nothing else is different. I'm certified on Partner ACS, I know this is an old system, how can I tell the difference between the expansion and the processor and is the programming the same as the ACS.
could you give me some pointers on this ld system

Programming is similar on all Partner systems. The later the release the more features it will have. Before the ACS the Partner system had a processor module that went in the center slot, and then used 206 modules to populate the system. Static on telephones is usually caused by defective 206 modules that have capacitors that start drying up and/or leaking with time. I have quick reference guides for most Partner systems on my website.

Given the age of 206's.....would the customer be better served by upgrading the front end to the R8 processor & related hardware.....as opposed to just replacing the defective module [ponder]

The top of the processor has the power switch, towards the back by the power cord. The top of the expansion 206E will just have a small hole where the power switch would be. I believe it pulls up on those old 206's to power the system on. Pushing it flush powers it off (possibly vice versa though, it's been a long time since seeing one of those).

I would agree that the best scenerio is to upgrade them to an R8 if possible.

Thanks all I went ahead and sold them a Partner ACS. I still don't understand how the old system was working since both modules looked the same 206 module with no processor.
