It's been 7 years since we first programmed our 18d phones with our partner system, and I'm having trouble remembering how to program the buttons on the 18d. We had 8 incoming phone lines before but dropped them down to 4. I want to change the buttons on the phones to remove the 4 disconnected phone lines and replace them with extensions. I found the instructions on how to program extensions and other features when the programmable buttons are unused, but since they are already programmed I can't seem to overwrite them.

Do I first need to delete the incoming phones lines through the the System Programming and not on each individual phone? Do I have to wipe out the programming on the entire phone to re-do the buttons?

You have to remove the line appearances before you can program as something else.

IF, you have the 1st 4 lines assigned to ALL the extensions, WITH IMMEDIATE RING, you can go into System Programming and dial #104-04.

If you have some phones with Immediate, some with Delayed, and some with No Ring, you need to use #301 (Line Assignment) to remove the lines one by one from the extensions one by one
#301-(Extension Number)-(Line Number)-3 (Unassign)

Or, if there's just a few phones that are different, make note of them, do the 1st procedure, then use Centralized Telephone Programming to change them back from Immediate to Delayed or No Ring

Thank you for the quick response. I will most likely do it one extension at a time so I don't mess up the whole system in case people have custom ring delays. In programming I see that the flow is like this:

#301-(Extension Number)-(Line Number)-2 (Unassign) --- if I hit 3 after I enter the line number it gives an error beep. Is this correct?

Sorry, you are right. 2 to unassign, 3 to assign and select a particular button.

So #301-10-05-2, #301-10-06-2, #301-10-07-2, #301-10-08-2,
#301-11-05-2, #301-11-06-2, #301-11-07-2, #301-11-08-2,
#301-12-05-2, etc., etc, etc,.....
