What is the sql statement for setting a field to "Allow Zero Length"?

I need to alter a table using a sql query (not the GUI).

You listening r937? :)

maybe rudy knows better but this doesn't look fun.

I thought there was a paramater you could set to "true" or "yes" in the sql. I can't find that now. I did find this though... not fun.

Thanks bomboy, but my db accessability is limited. The db guy for our .net app created a wrapper that only allows sql statements. I can't create my own custom connections and objects in order to access the ado property.

It's very odd to me that setting this prop via sql appears to be non-existent... oh well, typical I guess, eh? It's ALWAYS something.

Thanks for your input though - I appreciate it.

btw: I miss writing in CF - this .net stuff is driving me mad.

you could always just insert NULL's I've adopted that pollicy and love it.

When I used to allow 0 len characters i'd get hung up in my where clause sometimes. half the time the value would be "" and the other half it would be NULL which are both different values.

WHERE value = "" or value is null

if you don't allow 0 len you don't have that problem.

sorry i'm late, and sorry, i don't know

but i agree with douglas adams, you should simply allow nulls, and then insert null instead of an empty string
