Oracle 9.2 upgrade

Hello,

Our Development Database already running on Oracle 8.1.7,But I would like to upgrade current database from oracle 8.1.7 to oracle 9i(9.2) ..
Could anyone pl suggest the best way for this ..

what are the steps to be followed.

Oracle 8.1.7 is present in the DB server on Info: Solaris 8, 2 GB RAM,,
1)Need to change the Shared Memory?whatz kernel settings i can incorporate?
2) can i directly upgrade to oracle 9i using Upgrade Assistant after installing Oracle 9i..OR
Can i create one more database after installing Oracle 9i ..OR

Pl advise me,
