I have a user that is running Windows XP with Office 2003. She is encountering an error with a specific access application. When she tries to open the database she gets the error "the operating system is not configured to run this application".
We have done a repair and also a complete uninstall and reinstall and she is still getting the error.
It only happens with the one app ...
Any ideas????

Thanks

Try downloading the Office 2003 Resource Kit and using the Office Removal Wizard. Run the wizard and have it remove everything Office related. Once you have completely uninstalled Office, delete any remnants that are left behind. Search for and remove the following directories:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE

If their are multiple users log on the same computer and use Office, you may want to search through each of their profiles to see if their are any Office directories and files lingering. If so, remove those as well.

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office

You may also want to run a Disk Cleanup and remove any Temporary Files that may be hanging around. Once you have done this, try reinstalling Office 2003 and see if the problem is resolved. Here are some links to the Office 2003 Resource Kit download and some information about the Office Removal Wizard.

Thanks Joey!

Something else I thought about ... they have created an .exe to open the app and that is when she gets the "... not configured ..." error.
If she just tries to open the .mdb file she gets a message box indicating that it is a read only file ... then it halts the code that does updates on open.

Thanks ...
