I have two joined tables
I use a macro to open a form with a filter query
the dialog for user input from the first table works fine
when I try to add another criteria from the second table to the query another dialog box opens (unexspected)and the query breaks down.
The query works fine on it's own
What is going on, and yes I should use VB but I don't know it

Wow, macros... I think I used to use those :)

If I remember correctly, when you use a query as a filter it has to have all the fields in it that the form or report needs. Does your query have everything it needs?

Beyond that, what EXACTLY does the error message say?

It may also help if you open each query in SQL view (not design or datasheet) and copy and past the SQL here. It may give some insight into what is going wrong.

Also something to try, just to see if it works. Change the query to a maketable query and then see if the form will open ok if you change it's record source to the table. If not, there is a problem in the data. If it will, then it's definitely some query problem. I can almost guarantee your error says that the query is too complex.
